Superhero Girl 95

IT'S A TRAP!
This plotline was vaguely inspired by real life events: I hung out with a group a few years back, and there was a guy in this group I couldn't stand. He would kind of pick at me, and I would argue back. I really disliked him. Later my friends said they thought we actually had the hots for each other because we were always arguing. I was like WHAT. Seriously, I could not even stand that guy.
Anyway, the point is that those Hollywood movies about two enemies falling in love is total bullplop. People who act like they dislike each other ... usually do.
(Altho I am amused by Shaun's flop sweat in panel 3. His roommate is totally harshing his game. That's the term, right? Harshing someone's game? I don't even know.)

  1. I thought it was "harshing their mellow."

Though I have no idea what that is.

    1. I'd suggest you look it up if you've not already done so...

  2. I fervently hope for a future strip where Shaun dates Spectacle

"My archenemesis and my greatest ally? Impossible!"

  3. There was this girl I hated all through high school and college. We've been married for 19 years now... so you never know...

    1. Aw. Well, it works out sometimes. I kind of disliked my boyfriend the first time I met him, but that was mostly because he was a stranger in my workplace, and I was stuck sitting next to him instead of my former seat buddy. XD

  4. Play-fighting is one of the universal human courtship rituals. It's found in all cultures. The problem is, to an outsider, play-fighting and real fighting are often indistinguishable. (Well, in a reasonably civilized culture, anyway. ;) )

  5. Usually, Faith. But I think SHG detests this chap because he said she's not a real hero, while he doesn't detest her in the least and is just clueless. Like most men.

  6. The term I think your looking for is "cock block" but that would only really matter if he was doing well with her in the first place, which he wasn't.

  7. Nicely put, Ben. It is true that sometimes people fight as flirting, but I was genuinely shocked when my friends told me they thought me and this guy had something going. I was all "No! He disagrees with my most deeply held beliefs, some feminist, some nerd-related!"

  8. Another great one Faith. And I'm glad you respond to your fans too. Yeah, Shawn has it in for SHG. But he better move over, I called dibbs first! Also, I wanna comment as Facebook or Gravatar so I don't have too many associations to perscribe too. LOL

    Thanks,

  11. "TOYS!! ARrrgh!! They're ACTION FIGURES....!" Or, so I've heard from my "serious" collector friends. :) Yeah, there's a big difference between enjoying a good argument flirtation, and seriously disliking the jerk that has fun when he puts down your deeply held beliefs.

  13. Hm, is it just me, or is Shaun one of the few character's actually named thus far, the other being Kevin? Clearly the annoying character have the advantage at getting a name. Also, I'm highly amused by this seen in general.
