Superhero Girl 53

Readers, this is what's called a "Stalling for Time" comic while Faith tries to figure out how to end this plotline. XD That's the problem with seat-of-the-pants comic making. You go into a storyline not knowing the ending, and while I usually manage to find my way out, sometimes I'm like "ooooh, I have no idea what to do with this thing." Thus, narration comic. Which I hope you still find amusing. XD

  1. You're in good company. Television does this all the time.

  2. Personally, I do find this narration comic amusing. And it's much better than most examples of filler I've seen in that it actually fits and is good.
    And stuff.

  3. Narration, awkward boy-approachment.. it's all good to me.

  4. I like that you said that. I sometimes wonder how far in advance comic writers sketch the arc of the material. Some seem to write all the dialogue first, while others seem to figure that a 'then a miracle occurs' moment will save them. Personally, I prefer the former. Keeps from having one of those 'when Hoppy got out of the canyon' moments. You could always switch: "Meanwhile, on the other side of town....Villany!"

  7. That works. Also, since this is a superhero comic, you can always resolve it by having someone hit someone really hard in the face. Convincing people you are awesome does not necessarily make you resistant to really hard facial hittage.

  8. I must respectfully disagree with Seros Senric. This isn't amusing -- it's flippin' hilarious.

It's an interesting spin on the comic-book practice that led to the "villains monologue-ing" jokes in The Incredibles...

  10. Hmm, maybe Superhero Girl's roommate is a superhero, and this is her chance to "come out".

  11. This comic may have been to stall for time, but I still think it's very funny.

  12. I would say a good slap by the roommate to Superhero Girl will do the trick to knock her outta his hypno-awesomenes-gaze and maybe have it where the roommate is wearing a special bit of jewelry that even she didn't know gave her immunities to hypnosis, hence why commercials and other bullshit don't work on her. Just a thought xp.

  13. Clearly his powers should work too well on SHG, she becomes so enamoured of him that she has to hug him (or back slap, or whatever) resulting in him being knocked unconscious due to SHG's super strength (which she doesn't account for).

    So:

P1: SHG! Snap out of it! This guy is an evil super villain!

P2: What? No way - this guy is the most awesome guy in the whole world! This guy's so awesome, he deserves a hug!

P3: Urk! Can't breathe! Ribs crushing! Help... meeeeeee.....

P5: Shot of SHG smiling happily as she releases hug and villain flops unconscious to the floor

P6: Someone yells "Call 911!" while roomie admonishes "I can't take you anywhere!" and SHG looks dumbfounded.

  14. Am I alone in noticing Beer Boy is also immune to the Charm Attack?

  15. Problem: Everyone is enamored by the evil Glittering Attractor, including Superhero Girl! The only one immune is Roommate, who is protected by her power of Impervious Cynicism, but she lacks the strength of Superhero girl.

Also Awkward Flirter may be immune, but he's probably too busy dealing with his own villain - Rejection.

Solution: Use Superhero Girl's strength as a weapon, without being Superhero Girl! Just a simple push, an awkward domino-like headbutt to Glitterboy's face, and things should return to normal. Normal with added nosebleed, and it's very difficult for someone to be awesome while bleeding from cartilage. Villainy is defeated for another day! Assuming villainy doesn't claim assault. It's like the Fastball Special, if Wolverine wasn't cooperating and kind of into that guy, and Colossus is less Colossus and more a very annoyed young woman.

If all else fails, Roommate could use her ability of Impervious Cynicism. Glittering Attractor is less awesome if he has flimsy self-esteem.

These plans are certain to work, as they contain exclamation points.

  17. Hey,

The Podcast "SEQA Lab" from the sequential art dept of SCAD talks about Superhero Girl for, like, 20 minutes in their last episode entitled, "A Superhero Supertopic." They had nothing but nice things to say about it!

  18. I just imagine the roommate having the time of her life with the fact that she gets to have her heroic moment...while simultaniously being annoyed at her roommate.
