Superhero Girl 003

Once I had a co-worker, a woman in her mid twenties, tell me she'd never done her laundry. Ever. Her mom always did it. The reason being that she was absolutely sure that she wouldn't be able to do her laundry correctly, and would end up with shrunk or otherwise ruined clothes. I've done my own laundry since I was 14 (y'know, 'cause that's when my mom decided she was no longer doing it for me), and I've yet to shrink/ruin anything, and I don't even separate my clothes.

Anyway, the point is that laundry ruining stories, while amusing, are about as unlikely as superheroes in real life. :)

  1. I'm really loving this! Everyday superhero stuff is something the world needs more of.

But it's not true - laundry ruining happens! I shrink all my clothes all the time if I'm not careful.

  2. Yeah I wish that were so. I think the secret is not in how you wash them, but what the clothes are. I'm laundry monkey in our home, and stupid women's clothes are made from all sorts of wacky fabrics that need a lot of TLC. One accidental trip through the dryer and I'm off to the store to try and get a replacement before my wife finds out.
Hooray for easy care guy clothes.

  3. I just thought about it and I actually buy most of my clothes second hand (Salvation Army, FTW!), so of course I don't have laundry issues: the clothes have already been washed. ^^ But even with the occasional new stuff I buy, I've yet to have issues. I dunno, laundry magic?

  4. I think you must be 'laundry lucky'! I've done my laundry since I was 12 and I've had a few things shrink from time to time. (If the label says not to stick it in the dryer then it will probably shrink if you do). I have not, however, managed to change the colors of my clothes. (Had a fun friend in college that washed all her clothes together and managed to toss in a red shirt that bled dye all over everything else ... All her white went pink!)
But, like you said, if you buy second hand then it's already been washed and bled all over someone ELSE'S clothes so you've avoided the disaster and get the benefits of the item being fine from here on out. :)

  5. I've shrunk a bit of laundry, but nothing to the point that it was no longer wearable.

An ex of mine though managed to shrink a really nice sweater after having worn it only once. It had been the only one at the store in her size, and she'd loved it, so she was pretty devastated, poor thing.

I must admit, I didn't do my own laundry before I went to university, because my mom did it, and because I figured I'd muck it up. It's a lot easier than I'd imagined it would be. Go me!
