Superhero Girl 52

For some reason I imagine him speaking with a heavy Russian accent. So he's a hot Korean pop star supervillain raised in the wilds of Russia or something. Anyway, I think Superhero Girl's expression in the second last panel is my favourite part of this comic. She's so thrilled to meet this guy!

I keep forgetting to mention this, but I've self-published a collection of Superhero Girl comics. The title's been changed to avoid copyright issues (I'm calling the book Just the Usual Superpowers), and it'll be available for purchase from me at the Toronto Comic Arts Festival (TCAF) on May 7-8th and also at Animaritime (Moncton, NB, July 1st weekend). So if you're going to either of those conventions, please come see me and buy a book! The book collects the first 55 Superhero Girl comics with some bonus stuff like an author's note and sketches. If you're local to Halifax, you'll also be able to buy it at my local comic shop, Strange Adventures.

People have been asking if they can order the book online, and at this point I'm not sure yet. I wish there was a print on demand service that could deal with orders and shipping the book for me, as that kind of thing is really time consuming ... anyway, I'll be sure to let everyone know if I do decide to sell the book online. But for the moment it'll be convention and Halifax only.

Hope to see a couple of Superhero Girl readers at TCAF and Animaritime!

  1. Maybe he's a Buryat or something!

  2. Just use Topatoco for sales and distribution. You can ask Ryan North or somebody about it at Tcaf.

  3. Yeah, but the roommate is immune. I await future developments.

  4. As far as POD options go, Lulu (http://www.lulu.com/) is one of the best.

  5. Lulu is commonly used by the webcomics community when they're still in the print on demand stage of things and have a trade's worth of stuff. For black and white, you should be able to charge a reasonable amount and still make some money.

comiXpress. Evan Dahm used them for the first run of Rice Boy. Dave Sim uses them to keep back issues in stock (which is a freaking great idea).

  7. Wow, he has some mighty strong power. The sketches in the back of the book look awesome. Also, seeing those buttons and the back cover was surprising, because I'd always imagined SHG as a medium/dirty blonde rather than brunette. This made me realize I've been mentally coloring in other aspects of the comic too but not all of it. Anyway, have fun at your conventions and please do keep us updated if you will be selling the book online.

  9. Ka-Blam and their sister site IndyPlanet might be what you're looking for. Of course, this is more for traditional comics so some reformatting might be involved, but the service is pretty awesome.

  10. Maybe he's assuming a Russian accent because he thinks that's a good accent for a villain to have?

And however you end up printing this, I'll be waiting in line for a copy.

  11. Excellent point, Rose. Thanks for the POD suggestions everyone. I'll check into those when I have a moment. Part of the problem is that SHG is drawn landscape style, and most POD services want things vertical. Oh well. Hopefully I can find something...

Solo>> I like that black and white allows you to make your own colours for SHG. I want her to be kind of a universal Girl Superhero character, so my official stance on her colours is "whatever you want them to be." :)

  14. I am very late to this party, as I only discovered Superhero Girl earlier today. However, if you are still looking for print options, check out DriveThruComics. They have a number of formats available.

    1. Apparently living with a superhero has desensitized her to superpowers!
